Latifa led the Afghan Women’s Elite Movement and served as a police officer. Her siblings were also in high-risk positions — a defense officer, a rapper, and a police officer. Their family faced violent retaliation from the Taliban: beatings, whippings, and imprisonment.
Now in Pakistan, they remain in hiding, split across cities to avoid detection. They endure fear, trauma, and the physical consequences of past abuse. One relative gave birth at home without medical assistance. Another was punched so badly he required dental care they couldn’t afford. The family is emotionally fragmented, living day by day.
They seek safety in Brazil to reunite, recover, and contribute to human rights advocacy once again.
