Khatera's Family

Dr Khatera is a dentist and worked for years defending women’s access to justice in Afghanistan’s legal system. After the Taliban took over, she was imprisoned, tortured, and released only under surveillance. She now lives in exile, struggling to care for her family while coping with trauma.

Their life in Pakistan is marked by fear, poverty, and extreme confinement. The children are not enrolled in school and have witnessed violent episodes that continue to affect their behavior. Khatera’s sister also suffers from trauma after being attacked during their escape.

This family urgently needs help to resettle in a safe country like Brazil and begin their healing journey.
