Anjella is a former journalist and
women’s rights activist who
co-led street protests against the
Taliban’s erasure of women's
rights. After being beaten during
a demonstration—causing the
loss of her pregnancy—she was
targeted by the Taliban
intelligence services, named on
an arrest letter, and forced to live
on the run. Her husband, who
holds democratic values, was also
targeted for not following
conservative religious practices.
Eventually, Anjella was arrested
and held overnight, released only
through the intervention of
village elders. After receiving a
final threat from Taliban authorities, the family fled to Pakistan. There, their
situation remains dire: they share a single cramped room, live in constant fear of
deportation, and suffer from isolation and psychological strain. Only one family
member dares to go out at a time. The children cannot attend school, and the
high costs of living mean the family is malnourished and without access to
healthcare.
This family urgently needs support to escape this limbo and resettle safely in
Brazil, where they hope to heal, rebuild, and contribute to society.
